The Story of My Summer.
Lesson 1:
Family as I count,
More numerous than thought,
Vanishing blood distinctions,
Bound by past, present and future collisions.
Lesson 2:
A commitment.
Emotions obligate,
To walk, to run, to work out together our fates
Lesson 3:
Hands that are dealt,
Play with intelligence and stealth
Lesson 4:
Independence as much as we strive,
Accomplishments to feed our burgeoning pride,
The fall from world's grace we slave to stave,
All counts as lost at the grave.

HURL.
I feel sick.
No, its not a physical ailment, its a heart condition.
The grass is always greener on the other side.
I know, because I sang the song, have always desired her tuff of orange curls, if not for myself for my very own child.

life in reverse.
I had such a HOOOT tonight tris.kyn.
Reversing into traffic + driver apologising when we were to blame + yelling at the sight of 30cm long rats (strange the policemen 30 metres away didn't come running in our direction when my shriek pierced through the humid air) + walking into oncoming traffic + attention seeking laughter (this dude I know was definitely checking triskyn's long limbs out - PJ's too small).
nyehehe. another 48 years and we're one step closer to that wii room!
next time: ss2 glass noodles + fly kite + boston!

You don't need to look far.
Cotton Country.
At the station, Qing and his team squeeze into carriage 12 of heir workers' train. Qing carries in his backpack one modest pack of sausages, two small bottles of water and an apple. That's all he'll be consume on his sweltering three-day journey to the cotton farms of western China [Xinjiang].
Qing, has no idea about the simmering resentment people like him [cotton migrants] are causing. On July 5, 2009 race riots broke out in Urumqi, Xinjiang's capital, leaving almost 200 dead.

The 5 W's.
What if I had never left?
Who would I count as friends?
Where would I be right now on a Friday night?
When and will I, have I ever got my act together?
Why and would I ever have thought to write this?

Not for the Faint Hearted.
I finally braved myself to clean up my 'links' list.
Left unchanged for the past 4 years, names were interspersed with intentional spelling errors, and block letters in between to add 'edge' to what appeared then to my 16 year old self as sedate Times New Roman typography.
Now, what took me this long.
Even if it was 5 letters, every link held a story.
Its display style, the order (only alphabetized much later, didn't want accusations of playing favourites to hold!) and doh the blogs itself.
Others have moved on, deleting, leaving blogs stagnant, but I held on.
Well twentygasptwo calls for adultdoom, so I've clicked the memories into oblivion,
and marching on forward!
Oh, but there's those special few I'm stubbornly clinging on for dear life.
To remind me of how good it once was :)
Though I must add, very much against adult etiquette, I was very tempted to entitle the links column,wait for it,
FRIENDS4EVA.

How does one explain the baby photo profile/display picture on social network phenomena?
a. To serve as a reminder of the 'good times'
b. A sign of times, physical mutation with aged ugly people as a result
c. Some 'creative' soul put up a funny and the rest of the facebook population thought it was cute to copy

Quit playing games with my heart.
I don't know whether to laugh or to cry.
From 'In Brief,' The Age, 19 November 2009,
Malaysia's deputy education minister Mohd Puad Zarkashi has said that speaking English in the workplace is 'weird' and harmful to the nation's culture.
'This [employees in the private sector used English 99 percent of the time] also occurs in government linked companies where we have this weird culture of people speaking to each other in English' he said at the launch of a linguistics seminar. 'We are polluting our own culture and identity as a nation'.

Lest I Forget.
I was still and still am in Melbourne.
Holed up in a square 13 floors above,
Papers, magic colors, maltesers, M&Ms (of both guilty pleasure and burn it alive for safe measure types) sprawled over masses of white and spilling over and to the green,
The past 48 hours has been an overdose of Malaysian + Singaporean kiasu-ism, bordering the causeway's insanity on the eve of a public holiday.
I'm sure study time, whereever you are, has been exactly like this:

get active!
Usually, I have my reservations with campaigns like this:
Call me cynical but I never believed in protests, 1 million signatures movements/ celebrity endorsed advertisements.
Besides your 5 minutes of media coverage, petition groups don't go very far in agenda promotion.
People just lose interest and you and your groupies get labelled not very kind words i.e. crazy fanatics/extremists/nutcase/ other words not in my vocabulary.
This is an exception:
Since climate change is the new buzz in town and everyone wants to ride on this 'green' wave,
don't be part of the herd, but be the head of the pack, read up on the United Nations Climate Change Conference and be 'educate!'-d on how its policies can affect you/kickstart entrepreneurial ideas/ influence you to exert pressure on your local government.

Run in circles, no more.
Be Thou My Vision
Ancient Irish hymn by Mary E. Byrne
Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my Wisdom, Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee, Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one
Be Thou my battle-shield, sword for my fight,
Be Thou my dignity, Thou my delight.
Thou my soul's shelter, Thou my high tower.
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.
Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise,
Thou mine inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
High King of heaven, my victory won,
May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heav'ns Son!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my vision, O ruler of all.

i'm walking on sunshine!
Melburnians are a boring bunch.
All they ever talk about is the weather.
'nice weather today eh?/ its horrid out there!, goodness, the wind almost blew me off my feet'
Melbourne is notorius for its '4 seasons in a day'.
So why is it so surprising that mother nature turned pissy and decided to rain on your parade?
That's what the weather forecast is for!

funny games.
A play by play.
For memory's sake.
After only 5 1/2 hours of sleep, I rang Jas, leaped out of bed,
rushed out at 8 am, Saturday,
for a yeojinbae sale (if only I was this excited about everything else)
metlink said stop 20 was it,
only 50 metres to the store!
1 tram stop up, we realised there's 6 more to go!
so up we traipsed through high street,
passing all 7 stops.
and here!finally, but wait, this is 247, a centrelink building, then 257!
where did 251 go?
oh no, could it be store 215? (whose fault i wonder)
backtracked.
215! there's supposed to be another level to this building, but its only a single story building.
ohno! (stop pointing fingers)
meanwhile jas goes whhh.whhh. whhh (this goes on for about 10 times before she manages to form a complete sentence)
so,desperate times call for desperate measures. OJ to the rescue! (he understands my sale deprived tendencies)
he reads, store 256 : /
yes, CRAP all you want.
trudged up the street again! (note: up)
(this was already 9.15)
left the store, empty handed at 9.30
what a start.
but we had coffee after!
you guessed right.
it was urgh, in the kindest way possible, forgettable.

sometimes you want,you choose to run,
as fast,
as far,
as, you can.
now,
ahead of the pack,
victorious,
adrenaline magnifying the experience.
then,
settled,
what stirred, now familiar,
now routine, later strange.
once snug,
now stretched,
the color fades, it wears thin,
a bad fit afterall?

in her shoes.
Pressed for time,
She succumbs to crime,
She steals, he squeals,
His partner reels.
Again forgotten,
She concedes,
Stays in, she reads,
On others fantasies she feeds.
Today,
Her used by date,
She meets her fate.
Before the hour,
She yells, 'females to power'.

good try, but..
no cigar.
no cigar.
don't look at me now.

to hear radiohead's masterpieces being butchered/distorted into irrecognizable mishmash of sounds and head banging, tummy churning videos.

From the back seat.
gurgling with excitement,
words evade,
cracked lips pursed tight,
again, fingers falter,
trying to convey an experience,
for your imagination,
for my memory.
what was today.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!
those weren't words exaggerated to amplify my state of mind,
to clarify,
the state of my stomach at this very moment.
~~~
what a start to the semester.
the 9am start got the better of me,
but talk over a lunch of spinach pie, a shared admiration for steven levitt,
a brunette haired foreigner, passionate crazed academicians!(woohoo!), 15 minutes with mountain weekend trip-ers,
turned my day upside down.
Good times for the record, before 'life' stabs me from the back again.
if.
I was home,
I would have just risen,
In shorts,
holding on to the rails, kicking loose the fragile pieces,
Ageless china, red chopsticks,
My bottom on cold marble,
I savagely toss the contents of wheat and meat,
attacking every morsel.
Drew Carey 'tings' and Brady taps.
Not one to lose, I humbly attack today's media clowns,
burst of flavour and pods of seeds swirling on an inflamed tongue,
The greedy esophagus monster gleefully awating the smooth translucent sheet,
Cheecheongfun.
Instead,
Two hours too early,
Having been stirred by the bitter cold,
Hood over head,
I stumble from under my sheets,
Cursing the weather.
Project Runway plays,
The constant continous whirr of heat,
droning the voices of gay men and the *cough fashion forward,
A peanut butter jelly sandwich, a hot cuppa.
I run back to bed, shivering under the doona,
Blocking out what it is to be.
I don't know what I'm doing here.
Clearly, I don't belong.
i'm calling it a night.
finally!
some semblance of life!
conversations no longer revolve around assignments, marks and microeconomics.
by far the toughest semester i've had to wade through.
the struggle, all worth it.
passionate and infectious lecturers made this semester somewhat more bearable.
nomore nomore, posts on days spent at the library!
for the next month or so at least.
but that also means no more mornings waiting for coffee at paninibar?
and those library mates, and study buds.
it was good while it lasted.
thank you, you and You, for putting up with me.
don't you dare.
last paper, last paper tomorrow!
bright and sunny out today,
i hopped down the streets today, kicking my heels with every step,
a silly grin plastered on this washed out pale humdrum yellow moon like face of mine.
oh thank God for bringing me through this 3 weeks/entire semester.
and now, my last paper only 28 hours away.
oohh joy!
i pray and i trust that nothing will rain on my parade tomorrow!
switch on, switch off.
so much for being stressedforlife.
i've written three emails, spent about half an hour threading uni grounds collecting my assignments, rereading my economic development assignment with head draped over stacks of paper, stuffing banana and lindt alternately into mouth.
and now, i'm on blogger, hands a flutter, fingers flailing clumsily over the keyboard, waiting for the digital numbers to change to magical 6.00p.m.
i'm deliriously happy if you can't tell.
a lethal combination of kickarse assignment results (thank you Jesus!) and absolutely hilarious lecturers/ lecture slides, and the thought of good coffee on a Saturday morning!
after my episode yesterday, there can be only one reason for this.
Thank You.
i owe no one apologies, no obligatory thank yous, no need to address a particular person for their graciousness.
not confined to fitting in the mould they have formed of me.
i am enjoying the freedom of being unpredictable with my writing.
ipod is on shuffle, from radiohead, mraz plays, and then we've got lupe rhyming my night away.
i've not experienced such freedom in a while. now to bask in it.
Alarm Bells!
This escaped my attention last year.
This is what you get from mainstream newspapers,
Sarawak to Build 12 Dams to meet Future Power Needs
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/7/23/nation/21894319&sec=nation
This, they choose to ignore,
‘Green’ dams hasten rape of Borneo forests
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/asia/article5908207.ece
I'm not the most eloquent of speechwriters, so I can only go 'wthwthwthwth'.
I am aware of environmentalists and their 'extremists' predispositions,
but,
12 dams in Sarawak when you've made a white elephant out of the Bakun Dam,
no weaker excuse than this to make more money for yourself Taib.
How tempting it is, to go 'screw you and your cronies', but I shall restrain.
breathjennybreathe.
Oh, I only realised this 3 days ago whilst researching for my paper,
The great divide between West and East Malaysians.
This I will save for another day.
~~~
It just hit me,
My dad once told me of how a friend of his was blacklisted from entering Sarawak, because of how he was a anti-logging protester/activist of sorts,
If I recall correctly, it came as a warning from my claims as a 15 year old, that one day, 'I'm going to save the forests of Borneo'.
ahh, the naivety in my speech.
Its never too late.

its been a while.
since I've had such fun like that.
having our bums rub against mouldy musty alcohol infused carpet work,
watching andy bull work his magic on the keys, (his voice!amazing stuff!)
and tapping my feet impatiently and trying hard to stifle yawns when lisa mitchell was doing her set.
staring into window displays of almond cookies (i picked that absolutely horrid habit from you fatty)
yelling 'let's go already' to dear c*, then
running down lygon street dead in the middle of the night,
having maccas for supper, discussing or more like dissing life in sibu, hmm.
with a bunch of girly girls.
10 hours too early later,
frisbee and a picnic on the lawns.
